Technical specifications of the studio

All the hard data on one page, so production doesn’t have to call to ask. Dimensions, heights, electrical power, vehicle access and truss capacity at The Black Cactus Studios, a film stage of around 300 m² in Leganés, Madrid.

The space

Usable floor area~316 m² open plan (advertised as 300 m²)
Ceiling heightUp to 8 m
White cycloramaContinuous 8 × 7.5 m curve, seamless infinity background
Black cyclorama6 m wide × 5 m deep, up to 8 m high. Paintable, also in chroma green

Motorised truss

It’s what we get asked about most, and what fewest studios in Madrid have. It was designed and signed off by a qualified building engineer.

Structure6 × 6 m square, triangulated aluminium with 45 mm tube
Load capacity1,200 kg in total: 4 motorised hoists of 300 kg each
MovementVertical, from a control panel. The 4 points move together or independently
Lowest positionComes down to about 1.20 m from the floor to rig and adjust the lights
SupportTwo IPE-180 beams welded to the hangar frames, 4.75 m apart
Power at height3 power strips on the truss, with extendable cables that rise and fall with the structure

The 6 × 6 m truss hangs over the shooting area of the 8 × 7.5 m white cyclorama, with up to 8 m of clear height above.

What the hire includes

The whole space, electricity use and the facilities: both cycloramas, the truss, the dressing rooms, the production office, climate control, wifi and parking. Rigged lighting, technical equipment, production and set dressing are quoted separately for each project.

You can see the booking terms and day rates on the rates page, browse the studio’s equipment catalogue (always booked together with the stage) and request a date on the bookings page. If you’d rather see the full tour of the space, it’s on stage hire in Madrid.

Frequently asked questions

How much electrical power does the stage have?

The hangar has 17 kW of contracted power. That’s more than enough for a shoot day with LED lighting, climate control and production equipment all running at once. If your set-up needs more, tell us when you book and we’ll check it before the shoot.

What is the ceiling height?

Up to about 8 metres. That’s what lets us hang the motorised truss with room to spare, light a 7.5 m deep cyclorama without the grid showing, and bring in tall structures or cars without any problem.

Can a truck or van drive into the stage?

Yes. The vehicle entrance is 3.10 m wide by 3.70 m high and has a motorised door, so the vehicle drives right up to the shooting area. You unload inside, without carrying gear along the street and without street-occupation permits.

How much weight can the truss hold?

1,200 kg in total, spread across four motorised hoists of 300 kg each. The four points move together or independently from a control panel, and the truss comes down to about 1.20 m from the floor so you can rig and adjust lights with your feet on the ground.

Is the stage inside the Low Emission Zone?

No. We are in Leganés, outside Madrid’s low emission zone (ZBE), about 25 minutes from the city centre. Production vehicles come in with no restrictions or emission sticker.

Is there wifi and climate control?

Yes. High-speed wifi throughout the hangar, and heating and cooling that covers the whole stage, not just the rooms. On long shoot days it’s one of the things people appreciate most.
